There are 3 comments on Alum Steve Locke Awarded Guggenheim Fellowship

  1. Steve Locke is an incredible artist and Boston was lucky to have him. It’s such a disappointment that his Auction Block Memorial was never realized at Faneuil Hall. It’s wonderful that he received this Fellowship and will be able to continue the work somewhere else. Boston really lost out.

  2. I hope this artist can see his exceptional success at this point in his life. I find “white jillers” portraits to be very disturbing in a way that exploits rather than conveys meaning.

There is hatred in this world, There is also great love. In Harlem in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s many white professionals gave love within the confines of school systems that Did not always provided support. Principals in thise schools cared, truly cared and so did other staff snd admnistrators. I would hope those faces might be the faces you would choose.

Instead I felt stung by the very idea of white on black. It certainly prompts attrntion, recognition and accolades. So Congratulations. You succeeded.
